| A Talgo slow train en route from Paris to Madrid came off the rails at 12.10pm yesterday lunchtime just outside Medina del Campo station in Valladolid province, leaving nine of the 199 passengers on board slightly injured.
Four were treated at the scene for minors cuts and bruising, at least two of whom were later taken to Medina Hospital for tests.
Seven of the train's 24 carriages were affected.
A Renfe spokesman explained that the train, which should have arrived in Madrid at 9.15am, had been held up between Alsasua and Vitoria for around five hours by an electrical problem.
Crash investigators are not ruling out the possibility that, in an effort to make up for lost time, the train driver may have taken a set of points on the approach to the station, too rapidly. |
