| Six people were injured yesterday afternoon when a footbridge across the A-7 freeway in Mijas collapsed after being struck by a crane just before 5pm.
The two most seriously injured were travelling in a car, the bonnet of which was flattened by a large concrete section.
They had to be cut free from the wreckage and were taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella with serious upper body, head and facial injuries.
The other four - a young couple, their son (2) and a second woman - who were travelling in a car that shunted into the back of the first vehicle, were only slightly injured.
It took emergency services six hours to clear the road during which time traffic was diverted (without charge) on to the AP-7 toll motorway.
The crane driver responsible for the tragedy escaped unhurt. |
