| British supermarket chain Tesco has confirmed an order for lemon-flavoured melons grown in Murcia.
Designed over twelve years, the 'melon-lemon' is the result of crossing varieties of bitter white Indian and wild Japanese melons, and said to be ideal with prawns or salad as a starter, or as a stand-alone dessert.
Although it looks like a normal Honeydew melon, the new strain has citric acid levels twice as high as normal melons - at 700-800mg per gramme. |
