An 8-year-old French boy has died as a result of the terrible head injuries inflicted by an out-of-control jet ski that ran him down in a small cove within Benidorm's nautical club yesterday evening.

The boy was taken initially to Levante Hospital in Benidorm before being transferred to Alicante General Hospital, where he lost his fight for survival during the early hours of this morning.

A council spokesman has reassured the public that jet skis are not allowed to land on either of the town's main beaches, precisely to prevent such tragedies, and underlined that the accident occurred inside the nautical club in an area where bathing is not permitted.
