Thirteen people lost their lives in ten fatal road traffic accidents last weekend as millions returned home from their summer holidays, representing less than half the number killed during the corresponding weekend last year when thirty died.

Furthermore, since July 1st, there have been 412 road deaths, 128 fewer than last year, when 540 perished (-24%).

Interior minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, is due to give a press conference later today to explain this highly encouraging trend.
