It is estimated that around 822 hectares (2,031 acres) of vegetable crops were destroyed in a violent hailstorm on August 22nd that affected nine towns in Segovia.

Almost half the province's total vegetable crop was lost with some towns, such as Sanchonuño and Gomezserracin, losing their entire production.

At a meeting at Sanchonuño town hall earlier today, regional Rural Development officer, María Jesús Pascual, reassured a group of affected farmers that she is confident that the area will be declared a disaster zone, and that they would receive appropriate compensation.
