| A 27-year-old Senegalese woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl this lunchtime on board an AVE fast train travelling from Málaga to Madrid.
The woman's husband raised the alarm at around 12.45pm after his wife went into labour in the train's canteen.
Fortunately, there was both a midwife and a female nurse among the passengers, who helped deliver the baby, the first ever to be born on Spain's new AVE network.
After an unscheduled stop in Ciudad Real, the train arrived at Madrid's Atocha station only around twenty minutes late.
There, they were met by a Samur emergency services team, who checked the baby's vital signs and took her fingerprints before she and her mother were taken by ambulance to the Gregorio Marañón Hospital. |
