| Severiano Ballesteros was released from La Paz Hospital in Madrid this morning after being given the all-clear by his doctors though he will continue to receive outpatient care.
The 51-year-old former golf star has undergone three operations to remove a cerebral tumour and drain fluid from his brain then underwent a fourth procedure to repair a bone defect at the start of December since first being admitted on the 6th October after passing out at Barajas airport.

Doctors at La Paz Hospital in Madrid informed yesterday that Seve Ballesteros has left intensive care and is back on a general ward following a third operation to remove a brain tumour and reduce craneal swelling carried out on October 24th.
However, the recovery process from this kind of surgery tends to be a lengthy one, and the golf legend is expected to have to remain in hospital for some time to come, and is only being allowed a restricted number of visitors at this stage.
Before retiring from the game last year, Severiano Ballesteros won a cupboard full of trophies including three British Opens, two Augusta Masters, five World Match Plays and three Ryder Cups. In 1989, he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize for Sport.

Severiano Ballesteros is in a stable condition after a successful six-and-a-half operation yesterday to remove the remains of a brain tumour partially extirpated in a first operation eleven days previously.
A statement released by his doctors at La Paz Hospital in Madrid yesterday evening also explains that the surgeons were also able to remove an oedema and control intercranial bleeding that had been causing a build-up of pressure on the former golfer's brain.
Three neurosurgeons, two anaesthetists and three nurses took part in the operation, which started at 10.30am yesterday morning.

Severiano Ballesteros is back in surgery today to remove the remains of a tumour first operated on ten days ago.
Today's operation is also designed to relieve pressure on the former golfer's brain caused by an oedema and intercranial bleeding that started yesterday.
A statement released yesterday by his doctors at La Paz Hospital in Madrid explained that today's procedure is complicated by the fact that the tumour is buried very deep within the brain affecting nerve cells and the spinal cord, making it very difficult for surgeons to reach.

Doctors at La Paz Hospital in Madrid report that Severiano Ballesteros is in a stable condition following emergency surgery to relieve pressure building up inside his skull since a first operation to remove a brain tumour performed last Tuesday.
In a statement released by the hospital earlier today, his doctors explained that, 48 after the first procedure, Mr Ballesteros "suffered a loss of consciousness because of a cerebral oedema, and had to undergo a decompressive craniectomy."
The operation involves removing a part of a patient's skull, and is performed in cases where there are dangerously high levels of intercranial pressure.

Severiano Ballesteros is in a stable condition following an operation to remove a brain tumour performed by surgeons at La Paz Hospital in Madrid yesterday.
"Severiano Ballesteros is currently conscious and his situation is stable although he won't be able to receive visitors for the next few days until he has recovered from the surgery," reads a statement released by the hospital.
It also reveals that the operation took from 9am yesterday morning until 9pm last night, and went without a hitch, though a later report said that the surgery took seven hours.

In a statement released yesterday by his doctors at La Paz Hospital in Madrid, golf legend Severiano Ballesteros has confirmed that he has been diagnosed with a brain tumour and will undergo a biopsy tomorrow.
"Throughout my entire career I have been one of the best at overcoming obstacles on the golf course," the statement begins.

Severiano Ballesteros has been transferred to a general ward, is in a stable condition, and has been prescribed a course of treatment, according to a statement released yesterday by doctors at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, where the retired golfer has been undergoing tests since passing out last Monday.
At the patient's own request, it continues, the hospital will not be providing any further updates about his progress.
Yesterday, via his own website, Seve said he was feeling "very well, waiting for the test results," and thanked staff at La Paz for the attentive care he has received this week, and his fans for their many messages of concern and support.
