| A judge in Málaga has ordered the city council to pay €3,000 euros in compensation to a couple who were an hour late for their own wedding because the Local Police would not let the bride's car pull up in front of the church despite having applied for, and been granted the appropriate municipal permit.
After three months' hard work planning every last detail of the big day, the bride ended up arriving at the church in tears, on her own, having completed a 700 metre dash on a hot afternoon dressed in her bridal gown.
Furthermore, the groom did not arrive until ten minutes after that, carrying the flustered young ring-bearers in his arms.
Fortunately, there were no later weddings booked at the church and the priest was happy to wait around.
However, as a result of the delay, there was no time either for the traditional photo shoot in the intended setting, or pre-wedding breakfast drinks.
It seems that the ceremony on May 7th, 2005 coincided with a catholic brotherhood parade along the pedestrianised street where the church is located, and it would have been physically impossible for the bride's car to pass.
It appears that the couple had been warned of this possible eventuality at the Town Hall, but reassured that there would be no problem because the permit had been signed by the appropriate council official. |
