A 32-year-old man with a history of psychological problems was arrested yesterday after admitting beating his father death with an iron bar during a family row.

The man's brother and mother were also injured when they tried to intervene.

The incident occurred at around 11.30pm on Sunday night at the family home in the Alba district of Pontevedra.

When the man's injured mother tried to escape on foot, he attempted to follow her in his car, but ended up running down a lady who lived nearby instead before crashing the vehicle into the boundary fence of a neighbouring property (photo).

It then seems that he made his way to the Pontevedra-Vilagarcía freeway where he flagged down a motorist and asked him to take him to the nearest Guardia Civil barracks, where he confessed, and where he was held until the arrival of the National Police, who are handling the case.
