| Scientists from the Miguel Hernández University in Elche and Málaga's Carlos Haya Hospital have jointly developed a vaccine specifically designed to treat severe or allergic reactions to the sting of the swimming pool, or litter bin, wasp (Polistes Dominulus), that is increasingly common in Mediterranean coastal areas.
It is a crucial, and possibly life-saving, breakthrough given that the only vaccine currently available was originally developed to treat the sting of the American wasp.
The next step will be to conduct trials involving outdoor workers especially prone to wasp stings, such as firemen, police officers or farm labourers. |
