In Irún, twelve cars were buried after the collapse of a retaining wall on the calle Irún, though nobody was injured, while a rockfall near Castro Urdiales in Cantabria caused the temporary closure of the Bilbao-bound carriageway of the A-8 freeway.
A number of tornadoes were fleetingly sighted off the Balearic Islands yesterday though they blew themselves out before reaching land.
The wintry conditions are forecast to last for the next few days at least with another cold front expected at the weekened.

Six regions in the northern third of Spain have been placed on severe weather alert with gale force winds and snow forecast for Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Castilla León, Aragón and Navarra.
The cold front is expected to spread south as the week progresses, bringing temperatures as low as minus five degrees Centigrade. |
