| Three regional police officers were each sentenced to serve six years, seven months behind bars by a judge at Barcelona provincial court yesterday for torturing an innocent Rumanian man arrested by mistake in July 2006.
A fourth officer got two years while a fifth escaped with a fine.
During the trial the court was told that the officers, who thought they were dealing with a dangerous burglar, beat the suspect and even put a hangun in his mouth in order to force a confession.
It was also proven that the man's wife, who was three months pregnant at the time, was also physically abused during an illegal search of the suspect's home. |
