| A 6.3m long humpback whale found washed up on Torre Carbonero beach in Doņana natural park this morning has been released back into the Atlantic Ocean.
Park director, Juan Carlos Rubio, explained that the whale's injuries indicate that it may have exhausted itself freeing itself from fishing nets.
It was set free at around 3pm after a team of volunteers and ecologists had spent hours hydrating the whale and keeping it warm using blankets.
Mr Rubio went on to explain that this is the first whale to come to grief in the area since 2005.
Torre Carbonero is roughly 10km from the popular Matalascaņas tourist resort. |
