| Neither of the two Spanish actors nominated for this year's Golden Globe prizes that were awarded at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles last night, were successful.
Although Woody Allen's 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' picked up the award for Best Comedy, Penelope Cruz, who was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, lost out to Kate Winslett ('The Reader'), who also won the Best Actress award for 'Revolutionary Road'.
For his part, Javier Bardem, who did not attend the awards ceremony, lost out to Colin Farrell, who picked up the Best Actor award for his portrayal of a disaffected hitman in Martin McDonagh's black comedy, 'In Bruges'.

Two of the four Golden Globe nominations achieved by Woody Allen's 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' have gone to Javier Bardem (Best Comedy Actor) and Penelope Cruz (Best Supporting Actress).
The film has also been nominated in the Best Comedy category and Rebecca Hall is up for the Best Actress award.
Penelope Cruz was also nominated last year for her part in Pedro Almódovar's 'Volver', but lost out to Helen Mirren for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in 'The Queen'.
The 34-year-old actress from Madrid may also be pipped at the post this time round by another British actress, Kate Winslett, who is among the nominees for 'The Reader', though she has also been nominated in the Best Actress category for 'The Revolutionary Road'. Winslett has been nominated five times previously, but never won.
Bardem (39), who won both a Golden Globe and an Oscar last year for 'No country for old men', is up against Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges), James Franco (Pineapple Express) and Dustin Hoffman (Last Chance Harvey). |
