| TWO residents have been on a hunger strike for six days in protest over the lack of response to the collapse of their houses.
The block, known as Edificio Barceló en Can Misses (Ibiza) has been crumbling down for eight years, say homeowners.
They are waiting for a court to pass a verdict on the evacuation of the block’s inhabitants.
But they remain in the same situation as they were suffering at the beginning of 2001 – on the point of losing their homes, and living in dangerous conditions.
One of the hunger-strikers, Juan José Peciña, said his companion in the protest, Juan Manuel Miranda was admitted to hospital today suffering from severe malnutrition.
Neither of the men has eaten since Monday.
Peciña says he is “fed up with them taking us for a ride,” and that “every time I have to insist on my rights, I have to put my life at risk.”
The regional ombudswoman María Luisa Cava de Llano has made contact with the court to investigate the cause of the hearing’s delay. |
