A JERRY-BUILT raft carrying 78 immigrants from sub-Saharan Africa reached the coast of Tenerife yesterday evening.
At least eight of the passengers are thought to be children.
They docked on Las Vistas beach, where they were immediately intercepted by police officers.
Two of the crew were taken to a nearby hospital, suffering from exposure, hunger and dehydration.
Would-be African immigrants regularly attempt to reach Spanish soil by sailing to the Canary Islands on precariously-constructed rafts.
Many do not survive the journey. |
