| Ismael Berasategui Escudero and Aitor Cortázar García, two suspected ETA terrorists who have been summoned by Spain's High Court, were today brought back from France by National Police Officers.
Berasategui, who was born in Eibar (Guipúzcoa) was arrested by French police in May 2002 along with another suspected terrorist.
According to police, Berasategui, who has been handed over for a six month period, fled to France after the Spanish police broke up the infrastructure of the itinerant terrorist cell 'behorburu' that he was a member of.
This cell is believed to be responsible for planting five car bombs at Madrid and Málaga airports, in Gandia (Valencia), Getxo (Vizcaya) and Salou (Tarragona).
Cortázar, who was born in Bilbao, is believed to have been one of the Vizcaya cell's 'legal' collaborators, until he fled the country in 2000. He was arrested in Burgundy in April 2003 after trying to avoid a police checkpoint.
He was sentenced last year by the French Justice department to 12 years in prison and was banned for life from living in France. |
