| At first light this morning, members of the autonomous Basque Country police force, Ertzaintza, began the task of collecting evidence and assessing the bomb damage at the headquarters of the PSE (Partido Socialista de Euskadi) in Lazkao.
The bomb went off in the early hours of this morning after a telephone warning from ETA. The anonymous caller who professed to be speaking on behalf of ETA, telephoned the DYA (a roadside help organisation) in San Sebastian at 1am, warning that the bomb would go off at 2am.
Shortly before the call, a local police patrol had identified a suspicious-looking rucksack in the doorway of the Party's HQ and had already cordoned off the area, evacuating a nearby bar and residents from adjacent houses.
A second call by the same person corrected the original information, saying that the bomb would actually go off at 3am, which was indeed the case.
Initial reports confirm that no-one was injured in the blast, but the material damage to the property in C/. San Prudencio is substantial. A number of neighbouring properties have also been affected. |
