| A MAN who has just celebrated his 102nd birthday says the secret to long life is being happy. Pep Mascaró, from Vilafranca, near Palma, Mallorca – a village where he is known as 'Granddad' – says “I can barely sleep most nights, I'm so happy.”
Pep has no television, but millions have seen his face on the latest Coca Cola advert where he is shown as a century-old man giving advice about life to a newborn baby.
“Doing things properly, not damaging your body and having a happy life,” are, according to Pep, the way to live longer.
“Those who have troubles tend to go earlier.”
He describes himself as 'the happiest man in Mallorca'.
His six children, one of whom owns his local bar in the village, and friends say he is a person who is always smiling and 'has always done people favours'.
Pep has 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, with the 30th on the way.
He worked the fields until the age of 90 and continues to spend time on his allotment, and cycles regularly.
Widowed at 57, he met a new girlfriend at 80 and they were together until her death just short of his 100th birthday.
Pep eats plenty of fish and vegetables and drinks a glass of wine a day. |
