European champions Spain maintained their 100 per cent record in Group Five of the World Cup qualifiers with a 2-1 win in Turkey.

The Turkish team, who had lost 1-0 in Spain just four days earlier, took a 26th-minute lead when Middlesbrough's Tuncay Sanli set up Semih Senturk for a simple finish.

Del Bosque's men went into the half-time break staring their first defeat in 31 matches in the face, but came out as a team determined to reverse their fortunes.

Spain equalised just past the hour mark when Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso converted from the penalty spot after Ibrahim Uzulmez was penalised for handball.

And then, two minutes into stoppage time, another of Liverpool's shining stars, Riera, stole the winner after an excellent pass from substitute, Dani Guiza.

Spain can now rightly see themselves with at least one foot in the World Cup Finals in South Africa next year.
