TWENTY-NINE passengers were injured when a coach crashed in Puerto Lumbreras (Murcia) in the early hours of yesterday morning. Traffic police from Murcia say the bus was heading south when, for unknown reasons, a Mercedes lorry crashed into the rear of the Volvo bus which was carrying 36 passengers from Barcelona to Algeciras. The lorry driver, 29, was unhurt and the coach driver suffered only minor injuries. But five coach passengers were taken to Murcia’s Virgen de la Arrixaca the hospital in Huércal Overa (Almería) with serious injuries. One remains in intensive care in Murcia’s Reina Sofía hospital with serious head injuries, and another has been taken to the Rafael Méndez hospital in Lorca with a broken hip. Yesterday evening, 19 of the other wounded passengers were discharged from hospital. They have been taken to a Red Cross shelter and will be taken to their destination once a coach has been organised. Most of the passengers were Moroccans travelling to Algeciras (Cádiz) to catch a ferry home.
