| The Spanish Ministry of Trade & Industry handed down a 15.4 million euro fine today to the ASCÓ I nuclear plant in Tarragona. In all, the amount comprises four separate fines for serious contraventions, and two others for less serious offences which resulted in the dispersal of radioactive particles into the atmosphere in 2007 and 2008.
Official notification of the accidents was not provided until April last year.
This is the highest fine ever imposed on a nuclear plant in Spain. The second highest, of just 1.6 million euros, was imposed on Vandellós II in 2006. |
