| MADRID may make a bid to host the 2016 Olympics, after losing out to London for the 2012 games.
The city’s mayor, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, made a plea to the patron saint of Madrid, San Isidro, yesterday for the International Olympic Committee to choose Spain’s capital to host the event.
The assembly of the Committee will take place on October 2 this year.
Ruiz-Gallardón took advantage of yesterday being the patron saint fiestas of San Isidro and made his request during the annual pilgrimage to the hermitage of the same name, after drinking holy water from the chapel in accordance with tradition.
Later, at 13.00hrs yesterday, the mayor handed out the city’s annual gold medals, one of which was awarded to Real Madrid FC’s captain, Raúl González.
