| A HIGH-SPEED train connection between Barcelona and French border will become a reality by 2012, says minister of public works José Blanco (pictured).
Blanco confirmed yesterday that the AVE would run ‘provisionally’ next year, but full service would start in three years’ time.
“Given Spain’s geographic location, it is our obligation to pay special attention to international and cross-border rail connections.
“These are vital and a priority in order to improve the Spanish economy’s competitivity,” Blanco stated.
The line will cross the Pyrénées via Aragón and the French region of L’Aquitaine.
Blanco also hinted at a high-speed train eventually being installed along the Mediterranean coast, from Catalunya to Andalucía.
