| The boss of an industrial bakery in Real de Gandia has been denounced by the CCOO (Confederation of Workers' Commissions) for throwing the severed arm of one of his employees, a Bolivian immigrant, into the rubbish bin after he suffered an accident in the factory.
The accident happened on May 28th while the 33-year-old man was working the early morning shift.
According to Josep Antoni Carrascosa, the regional secretary of the CCOO, the injured man's boss offered to take him to hospital, but then 'left him to fend for himself some 200 metres from the hospital'. Shortly afterwards, the businessman 'returned to his factory, cleaned up the blood and threw the severed arm into the rubbish bin'.
After being notified of the incident by doctors at Gandia hospital, Guardia Civil officers went to the factory to recover the arm.
After initial treatment in Gandia, the victim was moved to a hospital in Valencia, where he remains in intensive care.
The man has been with the company for two years, 'working 12 hour days, with no contract, and earning just 23 euros per day' according to the CCOO, which has now taken up his case and will provide free legal aid to the man and his family. |
