| With Saturday's 2-0 win over the hosts South Africa, Spain qualified first in their group, with three wins out of three games and a couple of records into the bargain.
Second-half goals from David Villa and Fernando Llorente ensured the 'reds' made faultless progress into the semi-finals of the Confederations cup and straight into the history books as well.
Their 2-0 win over South Africa was their 15th consecutive victory since 26 June 2008, taking them beyond the 14-match benchmark previously set by Brazil, France and Australia. Vicente del Bosque's men are also unbeaten since 7 February 2007, having put together a run of 35 games without a defeat and they triumphed in 32 of those.
Only Brazil can boast an equally impressive sequence after recording 29 wins and six draws before losing 2-0 to Mexico on 21 January 1996.
Spain will now meet the USA in the first semi-final on June 24th. The second semi-final, on June 25th, will be disputed between the host team, South Africa, and Brazil. |
