| A British parachutist died at about 2pm this afternoon during a jump at the Ocaña aerodrome in Toledo.
The causes of the accident, that cost the 36-year-old his life, are still being investigated.
Both the Guardia Civil and Aerolibre, the company that manages parachute jumps in the Ocaña school, are trying to find out why the man died.
A representative of Aerolibre assured the press that the parachute had not failed and that the man was doing his 'fifth or sixth jump' of a course of seven when the accident occurred.
This version of events does not correlate with information provided by the mayor of Ocaña, José Carlos Martínez, who told members of the press that officers from the local police force had stated that the man's parachute had not in fact opened and that the man had fallen 'like a lump of lead' about 300m from the runway the plane took off from.
Less than a year ago, on August 6th 2008, another British man, identified only as 39-year-old A.B., died during a parachute jump at the same aerodrome. |
