| A man taking part in the San Fermín bull runs this morning has died after being gored 'under the left hand side of the collarbone', an injury that 'penetrated the left lung, aorta and vena cava' confirmed the head of medical services for the bull runs, Fernando Boneta.
Daniel Jimeno Romero,a 27-year-old from Alcalá de Henares was gored in the 'Telefónica' stretch of the bull run by 'Capuchino' a 515kg bull from the Jandilla ranch.
He was taken straight to the Hospital de Navarra by the emergency services, who recognised immediately that his condition was 'very serious' as he was in cardiorespiratory shock.
He was operated on straight away but his condition was described by the hospital medical staff as 'critical' and his death was confirmed at 08.45 hours.
The mayor of Pamplona, Yolanda Barcina, went to the Hospital de Navarra as soon as she learned of the man's death.
The 'Jandilla' bulls left another 11 runners injured, three with wounds from the bulls' horns and another eight with contusions, one of whom is in a serious condition.
A 61-year-old American is in the intensive care unit of the Hospital de Navarra with severe thoracic trauma and a 20-year-old London man has been gored in the left thigh, but is not in a life-threatening condition. Another American and an Argentinian are amongst the other injured being treated in hospital. |
