| A HOSPITAL in Murcia has come under fire from the patients’ ombudsman after a six-inch clamp was left in the intestine of a woman with cancer.
The 68-year-old had an operation to remove most of her colon last May, but a recent X-ray showed that a metal clamp – similar to a large pair of tweezers – had been left inside what remained of the organ.
She has since had to have surgery to remove it, and is currently in intensive care at Murcia’s Morales Meseguer hospital.
The patients’ ombudsman has called for an investigation into the matter and says the surgeon will almost certainly be sanctioned.
