| Juan Carlos Fernández, a potter from Toledo, has made what he hopes is the biggest clay jug in the world - 1.25m tall, 80cm in diameter at the widest part and 44cm in diameter at the base - in the hope of getting into the Guinness Book of Records.
The 37-year-old from Puente del Arzobispo (Toledo) started the jug last Thursday and finished it at 9pm this evening, logging it officially with Maximino Álvarez' notary's office straight afterwards.
Fernández now has to wait for the Guinness Record office to acknowledge the achievement as the biggest clay jug ever made in under four days.
The potter was apparently pleased with his work, but told members of the press that it had proved more difficult than he had anticipated and had thus taken longer than expected.
The storms in La Bañeza, where the work was carried out, hindered the project by significantly increasing the drying time for the clay.
The challenge formed part of the XI International Potters' Fair in Alfarería de La Bañeza, organised by the pottery workers' federation.
This is not Fernández's first Guinness challenge. He has previously registered a 1.20 m high jug that he made in El Ekido (Almería) with the record office and, in Toledo, he made the biggest ever 'botijo' (drinking jug with spout) which measured 1.5m.
