| Spanish Formula One driver, Fernando Alonso, will be allowed to compete in next weekend's European Grand Prix in Valencia after Renault won an appeal against a one-race ban imposed by the FIA.
The French team were punished after allowing Alonso to leave the pit lane with a loose wheel during the Hungarian Grand Prix, but Alonso will now be able to race at his home Grand Prix this weekend after the ban was overturned.
Formula One's governing body, FIA, will fine Renault 35,000€ instead.
Alonso's right front wheel came off and bounced across the track at the race four weeks ago and race stewards ruled that the team's pit crew knew the wheel was not properly secured but failed to tell the driver.
The decision to allow Alonso and his Renault team to race in Valencia will be a popular decision with the Spanish crowd. |
