| A FORMER councillor for Palma de Mallorca has been jailed for two years for spending public funds in brothels.
Javier Rodrigo de Santos (PP) shelled out a whopping 51,377 euros using a council credit card, provided for his expenses, in two brothels in Palma and in a massage parlour in Madrid, a court heard.
His sentence was reduced from three-and-a-half years, due to the mitigating factors that he had reimbursed the council its money, and also that he was a cocaine addict.
Initially, Rodrigo de Santos denied that he had spent the money on sexual services, saying he had purchased drugs in the brothels in question.
But the owner of Palma club Casa Alfredo told the court that no drugs are sold on his premises.
The accused has publicly apologised for his actions, which took place between 2006 and 2007, and blamed it on his cocaine addiction having blurred his judgment.
