| AN Antonio Banderas flick has won the dubious honour of ‘worst film of the decade’, according to internet site Rotten Tomatoes.
The 2002 production, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, starring the Málaga-born husband of Melanie Griffith alongside Ally McBeal and Charlie’s angels actress Lucy Liu has been voted a total flop after costing a cool 70 million US dollars to make and earning just 20 million worldwide.
Directed by Thai scriptwriter Kaos, the movie heads up a list of the worst films from 2000 to 2010, ahead of One missed call (2008) starring Edward Burns, Pinocchio (2002) by Roberto Benigni and Superbabies (2004) by Bob Clark.
Banderas’ and Liu’s film has been slammed by the US media in general, with Empire magazine calling it ‘a low point’ in the two actors’ careers and the New York Post advising readers to ‘delete it from the list of obligatory viewing’.
Other films included on the Rotten Tomatoes list were 2000’s Battlefield Earth, starring John Travolta; Bless the child, of the same year, with Kim Basinger; Spanish director Jaume Balagueró’s Darkness, from 2003, and Swept away, a 2002 production starring Madonna.
But now that Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever has netted the ‘decade’s worst film’ award, it is likely to see a surge in viewers curious to discover why it was considered to be so bad.
