| According to diplomatic sources, the Libyan leader, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, has cancelled his planned private visit to Seville, which had been scheduled for Tuesday and was shrouded in mystery.
He will now apparently fly direct to Tripoli from Venzuela, where he has been attending a summit of South American and African leaders, after being in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
A spokesperson for the Spanish Foreign Ministry claimed to have no official knowledge about the Libyan leader's visit to the Andalusian capital, which he announced last Thursday. He was not scheduled to meet with either King Juan Carlos or the president of the government, Jose Luis Zapatero.
Colonel Gaddafi went to Seville in December 2007, just before embarking on his last official visit to Spain. |
