| SCIENTISTS in Barcelona have developed a bio-sensor that allows HIV to be detected within one hour.
Investigators at the Microelectronic Institute in the city (IMB), say the system is based on a genetically-modified enzyme and a small network of microelectrodes, allowing the human immunodeficiency virus to be detected in a very short time.
It can also detect other viral infections such as swine ‘flu and Hepatitis B and C.
They expect the system to be in use by the state health service next year.
