| Officers from the Guardia Civil have discovered a cannabis plantation hidden inside a cornfield on a farm in Morata de Tajuña (Madrid).
Officers were called to the farm after four youths were shot at and injured by the farm's owners as they attempted to steal the marijuana plants.
The farm owner, his wife and two sons were all arrested and face one charge of engandering public health and three charges of attempted murder.
The arrests were made after the youths rang the Guardia Civil emergency number, 062, and reported that they had been shot at in a field in Morata de Tajuña.
The injured youths told officers they had been caught trying to steal cannabis plants from a plantation within a corn field, protected by various security devices and that the owner had opened fire on them with a shotgun.
As well as the cannabis plantation, officers also found two outbuildings used for drying the cannabis plants and a third building set up to classify and process the plants into marijuana ready to be sold.
The Guardia Civil officers confiscated 370kg of marijuana, 20,000 euros in cash and the two shotguns used in the attack, as well as ammunition, four cars and a boat. |
