| The body of the German boy who fell into the sea off the coast of Calpe on Thursday has finally been found today about 200m from the entrance to Calpe port.
The 13-year-old was found by Guardia Civil officers taking part in the search and rescue operation that began four days ago. He had been on holiday in Spain with a German family and several other childrenThe boy and a friend fell into the sea from a breakwater in stormy weather with winds gusting up to 100kmph.
One of the boys was rescued by a Senegalese man, who dived into the sea to help him. The man then tried, along with three fireman, to get the other boy out, but to no avail.
At one point during the rescue, one fireman actually got him by the hand, but a huge wave tore them apart and despite the rescuers' best efforts, the boy went under and subsequently drowned.
The Senagalese man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after the rescue attempt, having swallowed large amounts of sea water. |
