| Despite the severe economic crisis gripping the country, Spain is still the fifth favourite destination for the more than 700 million people in the world who want to emigrate to another country, according to a study presented yesterday at the 3rd Global Forum on Migration and Development Jim Clifton, president of international market research company, Gallup, that carried out the research, underlined the fact that the survey of 259,542 people, which was carried out in 135 countries around the world, representing 93% of the global population, found that 16% of adults want to emigrate.
Included in this 16% are 165 million people from the Sub-Saharan regions and a further 250 million from various Asian countries.
The survey revealed that the USA was the favourite destination for would-be emigrants, followed by Canada, the UK, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Germany then Australia.
Of the 700 million potential emigrants, the United States is the preferred destination for 165 million, with 35 million wanting to live in Spain and some 210 million wanting to go and live in any of the EU countries. |
