| Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with AC Milan last night means that they still haven't managed to win a UEFA Champions League match in the San Siro stadium, but they remain on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
Last night's match was not as dramatic as their clash in Spain a fortnight ago, but a point each leaves them joint top of Group C. Kaká was given a warm reception on his return to Milan but, after he inspired Real to a bright start, the applause soon turned to jeers.
Real Madrid started as the better team, raining down shots on the Milan goal, with Benzema finally netting one on the half hour after Dida had failed to clear Kaká's shot.
But Milan hit back barely five minutes later after a controversial penalty was awarded and Ronaldinho made no mistake with the spot kick.
The second half failed to live up to the excitement of the first, with a series of fouls disrupting the flow of play, but both sides will be content to go home with a point.
In Group D, Atlético Madrid drew 2-2 with Chelsea in an action-packed encounter at the Vicente Calderon, but go out of the competition after Porto beat Apoel Nicosia 1-0.
Atlético went ahead after an hour thanks to a splendid volley from Sergio Aguero from just inside the box as John Terry headed clear from Antonio López.
Chelsea then came back strongly and levelled when Florent Malouda floated across a great ball into the six-yard box for Didier Drogba, who headed home from close range.
Drogba then looked to have sealed the win for the home side, as he fought his way through and fired home past Sergio Asenjo at the second attempt.
But Atlético were not finished and Aguero curled home a wonderful free-kick to level the scores and take a share of the spoils. |
