| AN earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale has hit the province of Granada.
Its epicentre was said to be in Ventas de Huelma at around 06.40hrs on Thursday morning, according to emergency services.
The tremor was felt in Granada itself, as well as Agrón, Cacín, Santa Cruz del Comercio, Jayena and Alhama de Granada.
Little more than a ripple was noted in Monachil, Vegas del Genil, Cájar, Gójar, Otura, Maracena, Ogíjares and Padul.
The village of Ventas de Helma is around 30 kilometres outside Granada city towards the coast.
Despite the relatively high strength of the quake in a country where earth tremors – although frequent – are barely felt, nobody was injured.
Minor property damage could have been caused as a result, however, including loose roof tiles and broken windows.
Whilst most Spanish insurance companies cover earthquake, the policy usually carries an excess of several thousand euros, meaning the damage is unlikely to exceed this and be payable by the policy.
