| A BROTHEL-OWNER arrested in connection with the murder of a mayor two years ago has been denied bail.
One of five detained over the fatal shooting of Alejandro Ponsoda, mayor of Polop (Alicante) since the early 1990s, the accused spent nearly four hours under interrogation in a court in Villajoyosa yesterday.
He has denied any involvement in the case.
The suspect (pictured) is the third person to be remanded in custody over the murder, along with a 34-year-old from Albatera (Alicante) with an existing criminal record relating to drug-dealing and illegal possession of firearms, and a business owner from Polop.
Two more have since been arrested and will appear in court shortly.
Ponsoda, who was killed in November 2007 on getting out of his car in front of his house, leaves behind two daughters aged 27 and 29, one of whom was pregnant at the time of his death. |
