|  Spain's first ever sex change operation on a minor in was performed last week at Barcelona's Hospital Clinic.
In November, the judiciary gave the go ahead for the operation, after the adolescent had been receiving the mandatory hormonal and psychiatric treatment for over a year.
The judge in the case gave the go-ahead for the operation after studying all the medical reports that showed that surgical intervention would be favourable in this instance.
The operation, which was not carried out under the public health system, but rather paid for by the parents of the youngster, has been considered a success and the patient is recovering well. |
