| BARCELONA city hall has started putting up signs requesting people to dress 'appropriately'.
The sign, which shows a man and woman in swimming trunks and bikini crossed out, is being placed in markets, museums, offices and other public buildings.
Following controversial discussions in 2006, the city council decided in the end not to put a blanket ban on beachwear in public places, but instead will try to persuade residents and tourists to dress responsibly.
According to the city council's website, “Barcelona is a welcoming city that sees millions of visitors every year, and aims for harmonious coexistence and respect for public spaces.
“We have designed a sign with the aim of dissuading both tourists and locals from moving around the town without their tops on, or in swimming costumes.”
