THE last mother ever to receive the so-called 'baby cheque' of 2,500 euros gave birth just in time – at 23.59hrs on Friday, December 31, 2010.
But whilst Amalia, whose parents live in Jubera (Logroño) just made it, baby Claudia from Castellón was born 12 minutes too late at 00.12hrs on January 1, 2011, making her parents the first in Spain to be deprived of the 'baby cheque', which has now been abolished.
Silvia Nestares, 33 and husband David Fernández, 34, parents of Amalia, were not expecting their baby to be born until some time between January 5 and 7, 2011, meaning their cash benefit was a lucky surprise.
Silvia did not realise she was in labour when the couple went out to celebrate New Year's Eve, but they had to rush to hospital at around 22.00hrs because the baby 'did not want to wait' until the chimes rang in 2011. |
