Uruguay and Atlético de Madrid forward, Diego Forlán has announced his plans to wed Argentinian model Zaira Nara, although the couple did not reveal either the date or the location of the big occasion.

"I can confirm the engagement", said Adriana Forlán, the soccer star's sister, who chose not to give any more details about the wedding "out of respect for the couple".

Forlán y Nara announced their engagement a few hours ago via the social networking site Twitter.  "We want to share this news with you", Forlán said to his followers on Twitter. "Shall we say it?????", added Nara. Then, five minutes later they made a joint announcement: "WE ARE GOING TO GET MARRIED!!!".

Adriana, the second of Forlán's four siblings, after Pablo (the player's representative), Alejandra and Diego, described the joy felt by the whole family at the announcement. "We are all very happy. Anything that makes one of my brothers or sisters happy makes me happy too", said Adriana.

According to Adriana, Forlán, who was voted best player at last summer's World Cup in South Africa told his family about his intentions to marry Zaira "some time ago".

22-year-old Zaira and 31-year-old Forlán have been together since 2008.
