"El Bulli" hosts last supper tonight

World-famous chef Ferran Adrià will host a last supper at his restaurant tonight with "El Bulli" chefs past and present as the honoured guests.

Tonight's final menu will be created Grant Achatz, René Redzepi, José Andrés, Massimo Bottura, Joan Roca and Andoni Luis Aduriz as "El Bulli" closes for the last time as a restaurant after 27 years.

In an emotional press conference, Adrià, surrounded by his whole team, emphasised how important it is to him that the "El Bulli spirit continues" amongst the thousands of people who have worked there or have dined there.

"We have had the best in the world with us. They have the spirit, the passion for what they do and are prepared to take risks in the kitchen" said Adrià, before what will go down in history as "the last supper" or "the last waltz" as was emblazoned on his employees' T-shirts today.

"What we want is for the 20 people who come to the El Bulli Foundation every year to be the new René Redezepi, Joan Roca or Andoni Luis Aduriz", said Adrià, as he posed alongside a huge bulldog made from meringue and caramel by the pastry chef Christian Escribà.

Despite the nostalgia in the air, today is being treated as a fiesta in El Bulli: the end of an era for a restaurant that has been crowned  Best Restaurant in the World five time (2002, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009), and the start of new one, a move into unchartered waters, where the creativity and spirit of "El Bulli" will get the chance to live on forever, without the danger of becoming stale or out of date.
