| The mayor of Alhaurín el Grande (Málaga), Juan Martín Serón (PP), and the town planning councillor, Gregorio Guerra, have both been found guilty of corruption in the "Troya" case, have been given fines of 200,000 euros and have been banned from holiding public office for a year.
The sentence, finds both men guilty of one charge of bribery, but clears them of 12 other charges of bribery which the Public Prosecutor's office had accused them of.
The Public Prosecutor had asked for fines of 2 million euros for each of the accused, and a three year and nine month ban from holding public office.
The court, however, found no evidence that an alleged plot within Alhaurín el Grande's town council to make Mssrs Martín Serón (pictured leaving court with his wife) and Guerra rich by underhand means between 2002 and 2006, had worked. |
