| A seven-year-old girl has died after a fire broke out early this morning in the apartment where she lived in Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona). Ten other people, including her father and two brothers, have injuries of varying degrees of severity as a result of the fire.
The fire, which started about 5am in Calle Avet, has a quarter of the first floor, home to a family of Moroccan origin with five children, including the seven-year-old victim.
The girl's two elder brothers and father are currently being treated in the Vall d'Hebron hospital. Relatives are caring for the other two siblings.
Four other people are in hospital as a result of the fire, including a three-year-old child with symptoms of smoke inhalation, and two people with symptoms of intoxication.
The fire destroyed the one apartment completely and has left the rest of the six-storey building with smoke and heat damage.
An investigation has been launched to determine the origin of fire, and municipal technicians are assessing the building's structure to ensure that there is no risk to the other dwellings. |
