Real Madrid took an important step closer to the Liga title with a 2-1 win over Barcelona in El Clásico at Camp Nou tonight, opening a seven-point lead at the top of the table with just four games left.
Real Madrid started strongly with both Ronaldo and Benzema tesing Valdés early on. But it was Khedira who put the visitors ahead after just 17 minutes after Barcelona dealt badly with a corner.
It took Barça until the 70th minute to draw level, with a scrappy, close-range effort that finally got bundled in from close range after Casillas had denied both Tello and Sánchez in quick succession.
But three minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 54th goal of the season to give Real a massive boost in the title race.
This was the first defeat in 54 home games for Barcelona and puts Madrid tantalisingly close to breaking the Catalan giants' three-year hold on the Spanish league crown.
